Tinea Pedis/Athlete's Foot

Tinea Pedis or Athlete's Foot is a fungal skin infection of the feet. It is most common in people who sweat a lot such as teenage boys, athletes, and gym goers. It spreads via contact with warm, moist surfaces such as contaminated floors, clothing, socks or towels.

The infection typically presents with itching, redness, small pimple like vesicles, peeling, scaly and flaking skin. It can be localised to the interdigital spaces of the toes or diffuse over the entire foot surface.

Often a visual analysis and history taking will be enough to diagnose a fungal skin infection, however occasionally a swab may be recommended to determine the specific strain of fungus in order to treat accurately.

Our podiatrists will collaborate with you to come up with a treatment plan that best suits your specific diagnosis.

Fungal skin infections may have nail involvement. Find out more about fungal nail infections here.
