Curly toes

Curly toes are a common condition in children where one or more of the toes curls under the others. It is present from birth and most often affects the third and fourth toes.

The condition may be related to foot position in utero, and may also have a genetic link.

Typically, curly toes will correct themselves as the child grows and the tight tendons lengthen but there are measures that can be put in place, such as footwear choices, taping, manual manipulation, that may aid in the correction process. In cases where a curly toe does not correct itself with conservative treatment, a simple procedure may be performed under a local anaesthetic to release the toe.
