Thickened nails

Thickened nails (onychogryphosis) is a generalised thickening, with yellow/brown discolouration, of the nail plate.

It is often caused by trauma to the nail or nail matrix, whether that be a blunt trauma such as dropping a brick on the toe, or repetitive micro trauma like that from poorly fitting footwear. It can also be caused by psoriasis, peripheral vascular disease and fungal infections.

Our podiatrists can diagnose the cause of the thickening of your nails, and then safely thin and trim them down to a comfortable length and thickness. If an underlying issue of causation needs addressing, we will guide you through a treatment pathway that suits your needs.
